Beautiful, elaborately tied obi are the most striking aspect of traditional Japanese dress.  But there was a time when the obi was just a tiny cord that you hid from view.  In this lecture, we'll look at the Japanese men's and women's dress from the Nara period to the rise of the obi in Edo-jidai.
